Meet Dr. Peter Khamvongsa

Advanced Women’s Healthcare, Cosmetic Gynecology & Vaginal Rejuvenation in Miami

Women’s healthcare needs change throughout life, and finding a physician who understands both medical concerns and personal treatment goals can be an important part of navigating those changes.

Dr. Peter Khamvongsa is a Miami-based gynecologic surgeon and women’s health specialist with experience in minimally invasive surgery, pelvic reconstruction, urogynecology, and cosmetic gynecology.

As Medical Director of the Miami Institute for Women’s Health, he provides care for women seeking treatment for reproductive health conditions, pelvic floor disorders, hormonal changes, and selected aesthetic gynecologic concerns.

His approach combines advanced surgical training with individualized care and an emphasis on helping patients understand their options.

A Distinguished Academic & Military Medical Background

Dr. Khamvongsa attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where his academic achievements earned him a full-tuition scholarship.

He graduated magna cum laude and received early acceptance to Georgetown University School of Medicine during his freshman year.

After medical school, he joined the United States Navy and completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

His military medical career provided experience in gynecologic surgery, complex patient care, and a broad range of women’s health conditions.

Dr. Khamvongsa participated in Operation Noble Eagle and served during the Iraq War era before retiring from the Navy with the rank of Commander.

He moved to Miami in 2003 to continue his medical career.

Specialized Qualifications in Women’s Health

Dr. Khamvongsa reports holding four specialty board certifications in:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
  • Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
  • Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery

His medical interests include endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic floor disorders, and other conditions affecting reproductive health.

He also offers hormone replacement therapy, weight management services, and cosmetic gynecology treatments.

This range of clinical interests allows patients to discuss multiple aspects of their gynecologic and intimate health within a comprehensive care setting.

Additional Training in Cosmetic Gynecology

Dr. Khamvongsa has pursued additional education in cosmetic and functional gynecology, including training with physicians known for their work in aesthetic gynecologic procedures.

These physicians include Dr. Charles Runnels, Dr. Red Alinsod, Dr. Marco Pelosi, and Dr. Amir Marashi.

His training encompasses procedures involving the labia, vaginal tissues, perineum, and selected nonsurgical intimate wellness treatments.

Understanding Cosmetic Gynecology Options

Women explore cosmetic gynecology for different reasons. Some experience physical discomfort or anatomical changes, while others are interested in personal aesthetic goals.

Dr. Khamvongsa’s areas of training and services include several surgical and nonsurgical options.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty changes the size, shape, or symmetry of the labia.

Some women consider the procedure because of irritation during physical activity, discomfort, or concerns about external genital appearance.

Treatment planning considers individual anatomy, medical history, and personal preferences.

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty involves surgically modifying or reconstructing the vaginal canal.

Depending on individual medical circumstances, the procedure may be considered for reconstructive needs or elective anatomical changes.

Patients should understand potential risks, including scarring, discomfort, altered sensation, and painful intercourse, before deciding whether surgery is appropriate.

Perineoplasty

The perineum is the tissue between the vaginal opening and anus.

Childbirth, previous surgery, or injury may change the anatomy of this area.

Perineoplasty involves repairing or reshaping perineal tissues for selected patients experiencing anatomical concerns.

Nonsurgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

Dr. Khamvongsa has also received training in nonsurgical intimate wellness procedures, including the O-Shot®, which uses platelet-rich plasma injections.

Although these treatments have been promoted for sexual wellness and tissue-related concerns, scientific evidence supporting certain applications remains limited.

Patients should discuss potential risks, expected benefits, research limitations, and alternative medical treatments before proceeding.

Comprehensive Care Beyond Cosmetic Procedures

Dr. Khamvongsa’s clinical experience extends beyond aesthetic gynecology.

At the Miami Institute for Women’s Health, his areas of care include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, urogynecology, pelvic reconstructive procedures, and treatment for reproductive health conditions.

Patients may seek evaluation for endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic floor disorders, hormone-related symptoms, or other gynecologic concerns.

He also provides hormone replacement therapy and weight management services as part of his broader women’s health practice.

Teaching, Research & International Medical Education

In addition to patient care, Dr. Khamvongsa has participated in medical research, professional education, and international academic presentations.

He has contributed to medical publications and presented clinical information at professional meetings around the world.

His academic roles include Associate Professor affiliations with Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Nova Southeastern University’s medical education programs.

Through these appointments, he has contributed to educating future physicians while continuing his clinical work.

Personalized Treatment & Informed Decisions

Every woman’s medical history, symptoms, anatomy, and treatment goals are different.

Dr. Khamvongsa emphasizes understanding those individual factors before recommending care.

For patients considering cosmetic gynecology procedures, consultations include discussion of surgical and nonsurgical options, expected recovery, possible complications, and realistic outcomes.

His approach brings together medical evaluation, surgical experience, and attention to personal treatment preferences.
